Hoorah! New website

My friend Marty is a better photographer than I am. I’ve said this to him, and he dutifully demurs with all appropriate comments. I’m not saying that he is insincere in those comments . . . but he knows he’s better. I mean, the only thing I can say is I usually like his photos better than mine and if I feel like that, well, you get the picture. So to speak.

So having spent the last couple of weeks updating this website and making the effort to change its look etc, the question is “why?” If in the great universe of all photographers, one of the jillions of photo enthusiasts out there who randomly happens to be my friend is better at this than I am (and he’s actually not the only one of my friends who is) then why is it worth the effort to put my images out here to be seen?

I guess it’s kinda like the old joke about not having to be faster than the bear, just faster than your friend. I don’t really have to be better than Marty, just good enough to make it worth part of someone’s fleeting span of attention to take a look at my photos. Also, I don’t necessarily have to like my images better than anyone’s — I just have to like them enough that I’m happy to show them. To you! And I am — so thanks for taking a look!

PS — I’m trying to make this a classy place to visit; I thought “Hoorah” added that little extra something. Better than “Yeah!” or “Awesome!”

Marty, in southern Oregon or northern California . . . I don’t remember which
